Since the country has promoted the new energy vehicle power battery recycling policy, relevant departments of various provinces have established a power battery recycling industry alliance with a number of car companies, battery companies, and recycling companies. On July 30, the three pilot units of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Co., Ltd., Iron Tower Energy Co., Ltd. Hunan Branch, and CRRC Times Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. jointly initiated the establishment of the "Hunan Province New Energy Vehicle Power Battery Recycling and Utilization" "Industry Alliance" was established in Changsha.


The alliance will promote the construction of a shared power battery recycling network system, innovate key technologies, and improve local policies, regulations and standard systems.


At present, China Tower uses about 3GWh of echelon batteries in base stations in 31 provinces across the country, which has become the main channel for echelon utilization of retired power batteries across the country.

According to data from the Advanced Industrial Research Institute of Lithium Battery Research (GGII), the total scrap volume of power batteries in my country in 2018 reached 74,000 tons, and the total scrap volume of digital batteries reached 167,000 tons.


However, the current recycling volume of power batteries on the market is far lower than expected. In 2018, the recycling volume of power batteries in the market was 5472 tons, accounting for only 7.4% of the total scrap power batteries; the recycling volume of digital batteries was 106,300 tons, accounting for 63.6 of the total scrap volume. %, compared with the entire lithium battery scrap market, the expected recycling volume has not yet reached.


The reasons for the above phenomenon include unclear recycling-related systems, inadequate supervision, and inadequate technology to keep up.


However, with the acceleration of the commercialization of 5G and the large-scale retirement of lead-acid batteries, the power batteries recovered in the future will usher in rapid growth in the field of echelon utilization, and the market is expected.


It is estimated that after 2020-2022, with the approaching of the final scrapped life of power batteries, the amount of power battery recycling will usher in a "peak", and the market recycling volume will account for more than 20%.
